Zheng Chongbin (b. 1961, Shanghai, residing in San Francisco) merges classical Chinese ink tradition and Western pictorial abstraction in his work, exploring their conventions and elements for over three decades. He creates a distinct body of work that reveals the essence of matter. While primarily a painter, Zheng expands his conceptual inquiries into installation and video art. Notably, his 2015 installation "Wall of Skies" features a complex folded structure enclosed by a tilted ceiling and slanted walls, evoking a delicate interplay of lines and planes. Zheng's work can be found in many notable collections including the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Asian Art Museum among many others.
